Self-Drive Vietnam 4×4 Tour from Hanoi to North Vietnam – 8 Days

8h30: Our team will begin the journey to discover one of the most attractive pickup¢ tours of BM Travel. We will bid a farewell to Hanoi and head to Ta Xua. Since we use 4×4 trucks, we should choose small roads and dykes to avoid traffic jams.

11h00: We will have a chance to experience a Vietnamese-styled gravel road, running through the forests to Phu Yen town.

12h00: We are supposed to arrive at Phu Yen Town for lunch, then rest to regain strength before conquering some new roads in the afternoon.

13h30: Our team will go through Ong Giap Garden. Here you can stop to snap some impressive pictures, learn some exciting facts about the unique culture of Vietnam. Then we will go on the 10-km off-road tracks which are full of challenges.

15h00: Our pickup trucks will start to join a difficult narrow road to reach the top of Ta Xua.

16h00: Right after reaching Ta Xua pinnacle, we can “hunt” clouds and take as many good photos as we want. Right after that, the group will continue to move to Dinosaur Back Living – one of the famous cloud hunting spots in the Northwest of Vietnam.

17h00: Move to the campsite, the driver and guide will prepare a delicious dinner for us. You can also join in preparing dinner to enjoy the dishes made by yourself.

5h00: We will wake up together to enjoy a cup of morning coffee or ginger tea. Then we can spend more time beholding the beauty of the clouds from Ta Xua in the morning. This is what all the tourists come here for.

6h30: It’s breakfast time with delicious and nutritious hot dishes.

7h30: Let’s pack up our things and continue this journey. As soon as we get out of Bac Yen town, we will enter a terrifying 80-km off-road with one way in and out only.

This road will lead us through the primitive forest and romantic streams, with a lot of wild and beautiful sceneries.

12h30: We will stop for lunch and snacks.

17h00: Our team gets off the off-road track and turns to Ngoc Chien Hot Spring.

18h00: Soaking in natural hot water after a long hard day is the best way to restore your energy. This experience is the inherent beauty of the local people.

19h00: It’s time for an extremely fun BBQ party.

Morning: Nothing is better than enjoying a comfortable hot bath and fresh air in the morning. Prepare yourself because today’s route will not be an easy task.

We can have a memorable breakfast with traditional Northwestern dishes such as sticky rice, smoked meat, etc. Then we will say goodbye to Ngoc Chien and depart for Sa Pa.

On the way, you will admire the pure enchantment of Mu Cang Chai terraced fields, as well as the grandeur of mountain ranges. We can have lunch while watching those heaven-like landscapes.

Moving from Ngoc Chien to Sapa is the best chance for us to visit amazing sites such as Bac Waterfall, the Heaven Gate, or Cat Cat village.

Of course, as we are looking for a sense of adventure, it’s unlikely to miss O Quy Ho Pass – one of the four greatest passes in the whole North. Both the length and danger of the pass make it irresistible in the eyes of adventure seekers.

At night, you are free to wander and explore the romantic beauty of Sapa.

The first destination of the day is Y Ty. This means we will have to go for 80 kilometers on a beautiful yet hazardous road. This is because the road is remote and often covered by clouds.

In the rainy season, the challenge is even tougher as we have to pass some rapids where the water is flowing cruelly.

However, the real challenge will begin when you go from Y Ty to Bac Ha. We have to drive our 4×4 trucks on small and steep roads. The sharp bends are also difficult to overcome.

But you will also have a precious opportunity to see immense and gorgeous terraced fields. Another remarkable spot is milestone 92 where the Red River flows into Vietnam. This river has opened up a civilization that forms our country today.

Then we will enter Lao Cai City, check-in at the Ha Khau border gate, and visit the sacred temple nearby. From here, Bac Ha is not far away.

Day 5 is undoubtedly exciting in this 4×4 pickup truck trip. Moving from Bac Ha to Ha Giang, we will behold Hoang Su Phi terraced field – one of the hottest tourist attractions in the whole country.

Another thing that makes the fifth day outstanding is the threat it poses. We will have to drive on tortuous off-road routes on the way to the mountain tops.

From Bac Ha to Ha Giang, we can go on an old 153 road to Coc Pai Town in Xin Man, where the highest market exists in Ha Giang. Another choice is to follow 40-km off-road tracks with countless obstacles.

We will stop at Vinh Quang town for lunch before continuing to follow Highway 2 to Ha Giang. All the long way will become worth it once you see the immense fields full of buckwheat flowers.

Especially Ma Pi Leng Pass, Chieu Lau Thi Peak, or Tay Con Linh Peak are a destination that makes the reputation of this land. To sum up, to have a worthwhile trip, we cannot ignore Ha Giang.

7h00: We will wake up to enjoy a cup of right next to the Lo River. Then there is a delicious breakfast to recharge for today’s great journey.

8h00: Our group sets out, starting the journey to explore the Dong Van – Meo Vac Plateau – one of the most famous landmarks in the North of Vietnam.

Today our 4×4 pickup truck journey will start with craggy Bac Sum Slope. Next, we will stop for sightseeing at Quan Ba ​​Heaven Gate and Quan Ba ​​Mountain, before going to Yen Minh town.

We will visit and explore Lung Tam – a village famous for its flax weaving, where you can buy yourself a small brocade gift made by the hands of the meticulous H’ mong ethnic people.

9h30: Our team begins to conquer one of the legendary roads of Ha Giang and admire the beautiful spots of this place:

–        Lim Mong Valley: you can snap unforgettable pictures with the extremely majestic background here.

–        Nine-turn Pass – an awesome yet dangerous pass in Ha Giang

–        Fox Town Valley: stop and check in to take pictures of the valley with pretty Buckwheat flowers.

–        Lung Cam Cultural Village, where many special cultures of the H’Mong people remain. You can also visit Pao’s house, where the famous movie “Story of Pao” was filmed.

10h30: We will go to Lung Cu and visit the flagpole in the northernmost part of the country.

12h00: Have lunch at a local restaurant

13h30: The group continues to move to visit the palaces of the Vuong Family and the Cat King.

14h30: We will arrive in Dong Van town, stop for a walk to visit Dong Van old town before leaving to visit Happiness Road.

15h00: Take pictures to check in Ma Pi Leng Pass and watch the picturesque Nho Que River from above.

You continue your journey with the experience of sailing on the Nho Que river, the group will have unique check-in photos with the Nho Que river and Tu San alley here.

Tu San is considered the most unique beauty spot in the Dong Van rocky plateau with a cliff height of up to 700–800m, a length of up to 1.7km, a depth of 700–900m.

17h30: We will check in the hotel right at the foot of Ma Pi Leng Pass

It’s already the seventh day of our 4×4 pickup truck tour, but there are still many things for us to discover.

7h00: wake up and have breakfast in the middle of the green forest.

7h30: We set out to conquer Bao Lac and Ba Be National Park

8h30: Arriving in Bao Lac town, we stop to visit the market and take pictures with Lo-Lo girls in impressive fancy outfits.

We continue to drive gently for another 20km before reaching the off-road section.

On the off-road track, there is an unforgettable experience of crossing two large streams, and the road is quite difficult to go. This will be the place to test our spirit, but then you can enjoy a wild landscape, and hospitable local people.

12h30: Arrive in Cho Gia town for lunch.

13h30: We continue our journey towards Ba Be Lake

14h30: Our group arrives at Pac Ngoi village – a Tay village located next to Ba Be Lake. Here the group gets off the boat to visit Ba Be Lake, and also Dau Dang Waterfall. These destinations will take you by surprise right away because of their greatness.

Before returning to Hanoi, we can try kayaking on Ba Be Lake. This is surely an experience that you will not want to miss. We will try to get back to Hanoi before rush hours. That is the end of our amazing 4×4 pickup truck tour.
