Bid a farewell to the north region, we all start off the engine and drive south. Its own one-and-only charms make it a fascinating destination for any travelers seeking a bit of adventure. Clear all the scenic routes and we will stop at the heart of Pu Luong Nature Reserve. As a hidden gem of the country and a land rich in flora and fauna, Pu Luong is such a great place for nature lovers with the bestowal of the untouched beauty of the rainforest, limestone panoramas, eye-pleasing views of rice terraces, and majestic sceneries. 

Spend some times trekking to the top of Pu Luong Peak for soaking up the natural grandeur of the land. Leaving the endearing and friendly homestay, roll our set of wheels on the mountain paths of the legendary Ho Chi Minh Trail. The distance to travel today is the second-longest one on the whole self-drive trip. Recharge your battery with a full breakfast before we all move to Phong Nha – Ke Bang, the biggest and also most astonishing National Park and caves in Vietnam in particular and in Indochina in general. It’s also known as one of the 2 largest limestone regions in the world and one of the most spectacular wilderness sites in Southeast Asia. 

Containing the oldest karst mountains in Asia, formed approximately 400 million years ago and riddled with hundreds of caves systems covering beautiful underground rivers, Phong Nha – Ke Bang is considered as a paradise for researchers and explorers of caves and grottoes. From Phong Nha, the Ho Chi Minh Trail is divided into two branches, one on the east side and the other on the west side, meaning bikers can choose from two routes. With rich and diverse experience, BM Travel Co., Ltd recommends Passenger choose the Eastern branch of the Ho Chi Minh trail, which offers tourists a scenic view of majestic sea.

We stop at some historical sites to learn more about the history and the fierce battles between Vietnam and America, such as Hien Luong Bridge, Vinh Moc tunnel.
Vinh Moc tunnel is one of the highlights of this area. Constructed in a strategic location in Quang Tri province, this tunnel complex functioned as a bomb shelter for the local people of Vinh Linh district, who offered great support for the army. Some parts of the tunnel are 30m deep. It was used from the mid-1960s till 1972 exactly as a house with rooms and facilities, around 60 families lived and 17 children were born here. Our motorbike team then continues our ride along highway No.1 from Quang Tri to Hue. We get to Hue at about 4:30 pm, have a quick nap in the hotel, and explore Hue at night.

The 30-minute ride takes us to the charming ancient town of Hoi An as the last luminous ray of sunlight dances on the Thu Bon river. This is one of the most famous attractions in central Vietnam and was an important trading harbor in the 16th and 17th centuries.

From Hoi An, our Vietnam motorbike team heads to Phuoc Son (also known as Kham Duc). We strike through the Lo Xo pass and ride through many tribe villages of the Ba Na ethnic minority, scattered sparsely throughout the hills and remote mountains. Our Vietnam motorbike crew continues to ride until we reach the area near the border with Laos PDR, then takes a turn to Kon Tum and spend the night here.

Today’s ride is one of the highlights of the Vietnam motorbike tour route as we head to the central highlands region. We pass by Pleiku city, cross the Ia Drang valley and then gear up to Buon Me Thuot, the city which used to be a severe battlefield in the American war. This city is well-known for its production of coffee in Vietnam. On tour today, we cross many vast coffee farms extending to the horizon. Here we can enjoy the cool and fresh atmosphere and feel the sunlight of this central highlands region while sipping on coffee.

In the morning, we finish breakfast and depart to Lak lake by riding 55 km on route 27. Lak Lake is a beautiful landscape of the Central Highlands, which is 60km from Buon Ma Thuot far away. It’s evaluated as the largest freshwater lake in the area with the function of supplying fresh water to the fields and regulating the sunny and windy climate. If we come to Lak lake in the rainy season you can witness hundreds of streams, waterfalls to the lake with the blooming of lotus and gun flowers, creating a very poetic scene. 

Good suggestions for tourists are don’t forget to try interesting experiences: 

1. Riding Elephant and exploring the culture of M’Nong, an ethnic minority living along the lake as Jun, M’Lieng village. 

2. Going to Lak Lake by canoe to see the fish swimming under the lake with the fresh air surely makes you blow off steam. 

Next, we keep going on route 27 and Lien Khuong Highway for arriving Prenn Pass and Da Lat city. Dalat always welcomes us with a pleasant climate and beautiful landscapes. We can see Tuyen Lam Lake, visit Truc Lam Zen Monastery or stroll under the canopy and enjoy a cup of warm coffee in cold weather.

From Da Lat, we follow road No.20 to Cat Tien national park, some 150 km from Ho Chi Minh City. Visiting the park is one of the highlights of this trip, and we stop at a few spots to take beautiful pictures. This is truly a heaven for nature lovers and those who love outdoor activities. It would be hard to get bored in this national park with a diverse range of activities on offer for tourists. The best time to explore the park is from December to May. During this time, low rainfall and dry path make it easy and comfortable for us to explore the park’s wonder.

From Cat Tien national park, we ride a motorbike to Ho Chi Minh City, a fast-paced and dynamic city known as the economic hub of Vietnam. We head to the train station and park the motorbike here, ending our fantastic 15-day Hanoi to Saigon Motorbike Tour on Ho Chi Minh Trail.
