After a hearty breakfast at the hotel, take a high-speed boat upstream Mekong River to Phnom Penh. You can admire the beauty of the Mighty Mekong River with fabulous views of rice paddles, gardens and local villages along the sides. Phnom Penh, the capital city of Cambodia was once called “the pearl of Asia” but ravaged by the brutal Khmer Rouge regime. For the time being, Phnom Penh has retained its rustic charm and elegance.
In the afternoon, we’ll be going to explore Phnom Penh’s rich culture and mysterious heritages, particularly the magnificent Royal Palace complex and the notorious Killing Fields of Choeung Ek to learn about the terrible genocide in the late 1970s, the dark side of Cambodian history. On the mass killing site, you can see a 17-story glass memorial tower (stupa) holding more than 5.000 victims’ skulls.
