  • 2020 Honda Africa Twin CRF1100L - A New Level of Convenience - Comparable With a Car

2020 Honda Africa Twin CRF1100L - A New Level of Convenience - Comparable With a Car

Table of Contents

As a new revolution in motorbike technology, the 2020 Honda Africa Twin CRF1100L comes with a powerful engine and a wide range of new safety and comfort systems.

honda africa twin Vietam

In September 2019, Honda published the 2020 Honda Africa Twin CRF1100L as the latest generation of Africa Twin Adventure. It is also a replacement for the Africa Twin CRF1000L, launched in 2015. Compared to its predecessor, the Honda Africa Twin CRF1100L has greatly improved numerous aspects such as design, engine, chassis, and electronics systems.

This motorbike type is expected to be sold in 2 versions: the standard version and the Adventure Sports. If the former offers more off-road capabilities, the latter allows you to experience long trips.

What's new about the 2020 Honda Africa Twin CRF1100L

Powerful Engine

Similar to the previous version, the 2020 Honda Africa Twin CRF1100L runs on an inline 2-cylinder, Unicam 4 valve/cylinder, liquid-cooled engine with a 270° crankshaft; and the left piston diameter is still 92mm.

The main difference between the CRF1000L and the CRF1100L comes from the length of the connecting rod. While the CRF1000 is only 75.1mm long, the CRF1100L has a length of 81.5mm. As a result, the engine capacity of this new version reaches up to 1,084cc, which is 86cc larger than the previous one.

Honda also brought this engine many other improvements. In particular, the CRF1100L is equipped with an aluminum cylinder, new fuel injectors, a new camshaft, and a dual-plug combustion chamber.

Besides, the throttle is extended to 46mm in diameter. The manufacturer also increases the diameter of the intake/exhaust from 9.2 / 8.6mm to 10.1 / 9.3mm. On the other hand, Exhaust Control Valve (ECV) and Engine Control Unit (ECU) are mapped.

All the changes mentioned above lead to the fact that the Honda Africa Twin CRF1100L reaches a maximum capacity of 102 HP at 7,500 rpm and torque of 105Nm. Furthermore, thanks to these enhancements, Honda Africa Twin CRF1100L can meet the European emission standards.

Two transmission versions

There are two transmission versions of the 2020 Africa Twin CRF1100L, including a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed dual-clutch. With the 6-speed dual-clutch, Honda makes considerable improvements to match the powerful engine. In addition, the Inertial Measurement Unit (IMU) helps you to make automatic transmissions accurately when your motorbike does a turn.

This transmission version provides different forms of controls, including Drive (D), Sport (S1/2/3), and Manual (MT). Meanwhile, the manual version gives riders the option of a two-way quick shift system.

Lightweight Frame

When experiencing Honda Africa Twin CRF1100L, you also realize several differences in design. First of all, there are some big changes in the frame, especially the narrow width of the frame. Besides, instead of welding the rear subframe directly to the mainframe, the manufacturer screws them together. This innovation brings riders various benefits. In particular, it decreases the frame system's weight by 1.8 kg. You also find it easier to put your foot on the ground.

As a result, compared to the older generation, this motorcycle is reduced by 3 kg (standard version) or 4 kg (Adventure Sports) despite having a large engine capacity.

Seat and Steering

A 40mm seat and a 22.5mm steering design will provide you with a comfortable riding experience. The most striking feature is that due to the rear fork, the 2020 African Twin CRF1100L can offer an adjustable saddle ranging from 850mm to 870mm from the ground.

This suspension system is equipped with USD Showa shock absorbers with a diameter of 45mm. Simultaneously, the front fork travels up to 230mm, while the rear mono-shock comes with 220mm travel. Besides, the ground clearance reaches 25cm.

Wheels, tires, and brakes

The motorbike also features aluminum alloy wheels with a diameter of 21 inches at the front and 18 inches at the rear. Depending on each version and market, the CRF1100L will offer different tires: Bridgestone Battlex Adventure Cross AX41T or Metzeler Karoo Street. The front tire is 90/90, and the rear provides the 150/70 type.

Despite running at high speed, Honda Africa Twin CRF1100L can stop quickly with the front dual disc brake system 310mm in diameter, along with Nissin radial four-piston calipers. Meanwhile, the rear brake has only one piston caliper with a length of 256mm.

Riding Technologies

Dozens of upgrades of riding technologies have turned the product from Honda into one of the most modern motorcycles today. You can choose from 6 driving modes that consist of 4 presets (Tour - Urban - Gravel - Off-Road) and two self-configuring modes. Each of them can control the engine's power and braking force. The anti-wheelie and dual force control also work smoothly in every mode.

The traction control system has seven levels, while the anti-wheelie system offers three levels. The anti-lock brake system (ABS) is available on the 2020 Africa Twin CRF1100L. You can switch off it with the Off-Road mode on the rear wheel.

Display and connectivity

If the CRF1000L uses a monochrome dashboard, the new version CRF1100L chooses the 6.5-inch touchscreen infotainment system that includes three different display modes and two background colors that are adjustable based on the brightness of the surrounding environment.

More excitingly, this screen integrates Bluetooth to connect to your smartphone, allowing smart features on the motorbike screen, such as enjoying multimedia entertainment and making or receiving calls. Below the infotainment system, you will find another small dashboard that displays the essential information about the motorbike while it is in operation. It's no exaggeration that Honda Africa Twin CRF1100L is inferior to a modern car.

Battery

In addition to the advancement in the electronic systems, Honda gives some changes to the battery. The popular lead battery of the Africa Twin is replaced with the li-ion battery, which is four times as durable as other normal batteries.

Other features

Another stunning point of the motorbike is the equipment of LED lights. You will feel excited to see that sidelights can turn off automatically following the steering wheel angle. Meanwhile, cruise control has also become an essential part of the CRF1100L.

What's special about AWhat'sTwin CRF1100L Adventure Sports

Compared to the standard version, Africa Twin CRF1100L Adventure Sports is more impressive due to the Showa electronic fork with four soft and hard modes: Off-Road, Hard, Mid, and Soft. In addition, the ability to adjust to 24 different levhttps://vietnammotorbiketoursclub.comes is also a highlight.

This version supplies riders with a tall windshield, a big fuel tank, a trunk, heated gloves, a 12-volt power outlet, and tubeless tires. It also stands out with a pair of auxiliary lights located under the main headlight, which can illuminate turning corners. Meanwhile, the fuel tank capacity of this variant increases from 18.8 to 24.8l.

How about the price

Honda Africa Twin CRF1100L usually exists in two colors: red and black. The starting price of the manual is 15,240 Euro, and that of the dual-clutch is 16,240 Euro.

For the Adventure Sports version, these prices, in turn, will be 19,240 Euro and 20,240 Euro and the primary color is dark black metallic.
