Ford Ranger Raptor

Ford Ranger Raptor Small Pickup Trucks Built Tough for Adventure

If you’re reading this, chances are two-wheels are your preferred method of travel. And with the progression of the adventure motorcycling industry, there are now loads of capable bikes that are able to take you across all manner of terrain. But there are also those who, whether you think it’s blasphemy or not, choose not to take on such mammoth journeys in the saddle and instead opt for four wheels instead of two. The question is, which copes better?

Ford’s new Ranger Raptor is squarely aimed at hardcore off-road warriors, or at least those who want to look the part. By roaring into the off-road scene with unparalleled power and precision, the new Ford Ranger Raptor is a force to consider if you’re looking for a new truck. The truck’s aggressive design, cutting-edge technology, and exceptional capabilities enable it to conquer any terrain that dares to stand in its way. This fearsome off-road warrior has triumphantly returned, redefining what it means to rule the wild outdoors and the city streets.

The Ford Ranger Raptor melted the Internet when it was announced. Thanks to the Ford F-150 Raptor, which combines power with an incredible capacity to handle anything a dirt road would throw at it, the term Raptor has enormous significance for off-road aficionados. Let’s learn more about the characters of the well-known Ranger Raptor, which, incidentally, uses the moniker “Raptor” to describe its sporty pickup vehicles.

Exterior

It’s difficult to mistake the Ranger Raptor for anything else. For starters, the pickup truck’s bold styling begins with its beefed-up fenders front and rear to accommodate the 33-inch Goodyear tires (that wrap the 17-inch alloy wheels) and 2.5-inch Fox Racing shock absorbers.

To emphasize the Ranger Raptor’s muscular haunches, the truck wears matte-black bumpers fore and aft and matte-black overfenders that protect the paintwork from debris. As it stands all high and mighty with a ground clearance of 283 millimeters, the pickup is fitted with wide stepboards to ease ingress and egress. The side-view mirrors and door handles continue the matte-black contrast.

Meanwhile, the Ranger Raptor’s imposing fascia wears the “signature Ford grille,” whose dark finish is flanked by LED headlights and fog lights. The air vents on the front fenders are functional. Moving to the rear, Raptor decals and badges adorn the rear fenders and tailgate.

These exterior decorations can be paired with a selection of colors: True Red, Conquer Gray, Arctic White, Absolute Black, and the fetching Performance Blue that our test car wore.

All of these styling bits and pieces are worn by a body that measures 5,398mm long, 2,028mm wide, and 1,873mm tall. With the large tires and equally hefty dimensions, the Ranger Raptor is indeed a bigfoot. The only time this pickup felt small was when I encountered an F-150. If you somehow want to draw more attention, then you might find the Ranger Raptor X to your liking. The Raptor X is made even more conspicuous with black and red stripes on the sides, hood, tailgate, and roof, and black sports bar on the bed.

 Life on the inside

Although it may sound like marketing jargon, the moment you step inside the cabin, you’ll want to drive fast. All four passengers, including the driver, are seated in bolstered seats with leather and suede upholstery. The driver gets to grip a leather steering wheel with red accents and thumb grips. The motorist is further enticed by checkered red and black gauges.

But despite the sporty trimmings, the Ranger Raptor’s interior is still a relaxing place to be. It carries creature comforts such as a smart entry system, push-button start, a driver’s eight-way power adjustable seat, dual climate control, and an eight-inch Sync3 infotainment touchscreen linked to six speakers.

The Ranger Raptor also has a laid-back personality thanks to a cozy cabin free from excessive engine and wind noise at speed, a supple ride, and an easy-going engine. However, the cabin could be improved in some areas. Techies can use the Ranger Raptor’s Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivities and voice command.

Capability

The Ford Ranger Raptor performs above and beyond expectations when taming the harsh landscape. Its robust suspension system, enhanced by Fox internal bypass shocks, absorbs every bump and jolt, ensuring a smooth and controlled ride whenever you go. With its strong underbody protection and outstanding ground clearance, this vehicle can easily overcome any challenge. It easily navigates through mud, sand, and rocky terrain because of a sophisticated 4×4 drivetrain and an electronic locking rear differential. The Ranger Raptor is a true off-road warrior that you can custom just how you’d like it.

Equipment and engine

There’s a fair bit of equipment, too, including powered and heated front seats, an excellent B&O stereo, electrically adjustable steering, and selectable drive modes including Rock, Slippery, Rock Crawl, and Baja (sand). For those who want to be driven incognito, there’s rear privacy glass, automatic dipping LED headlights, a 400W 240v socket in the load bed, parking sensors, a 360-degree camera and a rear camera, blind-spot monitoring, including a trailer, and hill descent control, as well as all the stability systems you’d expect. It will tow up to 2.5 tons; a towing kit is fitted as standard.

The engine opens its account with a bombastic roar, which sets the tone, although with only 288 bhp and a kerb weight of 2,454 kg, there are certainly quicker things out there, quicker pickups included. Ford squeezes up to 400 bhp out of this biturbo engine outside the EU, but rules and regulations over here mean less is, er, less. The 10-speed automatic gearbox also serves to confuse the issue, as it changes up and down its ratios sometimes for no other reason than because it can. Floor the accelerator, and the nose lifts as the truck aims to head for the hills; however, the gearbox won’t allow it to lug way down the rev range as a V8-engined pickup does. For the record, the top speed is a claimed 111mph, with 0-62mph in 7.9 seconds. From the driver’s seat, that acceleration figure feels realistic.

As for the fuel consumption, Ford achieved an overall consumption of over 650 miles at 20.4 mpg, which is exactly its claimed WLTP combined figure. Speed and acceleration ruin the economy, of course, rather than a load or even a trailer. At one point, at a steady 60mph with a motorcycle trailer on the back, the overall consumption was 25.6 mpg.

Safety

The new Ranger Raptor has safety as its top concern at all times. You and your passengers are safeguarded by a sturdy frame made of high-strength steel. A full airbag system, roll stability control, and trailer sway control are just a few of the high-tech safety systems that work together to keep you safe at all times. Ford’s dedication to safety is unshakable, so you can rest easy.

Conclusion

The Ford Ranger Raptor has divided opinions, but when you need to get from one end of a rough dirt track to the other, there’s no better way to travel. This aggressive-looking pickup is more about performance and comfort than the traditional workhorse, but you can’t help but be impressed.
