Africa Twin 1100
1.Review
The Honda Africa Twin’s third generation has at last developed into the bike that so many of its fans had hoped it would be from the start.
It is a strong competitor in the adventure bike market because it has enough of the newest electronic technology and a little bit more power in its super-sized motor. But is Honda’s choice to tilt the stock bike more toward the off-road side the right one?
Although the 2020 Honda Africa Twin Adventure Sports may be more maneuverable, I can’t help but think that UK riders will be more persuaded by the Sports’ practicality than by the stock model’s tough demeanor and lighter weight. It might not be the best BMW R1250GS, but it is unquestionably an improvement.
Starting with the 2021 model year, the standard Africa Twin will be offered with the HRC-inspired paint scheme that was previously only offered on the top-of-the-line Adventure Sports model.
2.Highlights
The Honda, which now has a 1084 cc parallel-twin engine, lacks the top-end power of the bigger bikes in its class. Unlike many of its rivals, which sit above the 130 bhp mark, the Africa Twin pumps out 100 bhp and 78 ft/lbs of torque, which, although it doesn’t sound like much, is still a sizable amount, especially when taking the AT off-road. We were testing the Adventure Sports model, which has all the gadgets and gizmos you’d expect from a top-tier adventure bike, including a big TFT dash and driver aids like cruise control and electronically damped suspension. However, unlike some of its competitors, it does not include a quick-shifter, which is not always a requirement on large adventure bikes.
Adventure Sports Design
The Africa Twin Adventure Sports package is ideal for the long haul. The front fairing and height-adjustable screen, designed for comfort as well as performance, allow you to customize airflow. The 24.8-liter fuel tank gives greater autonomy, while the large engine skid plate and premium aluminum Rotex protect the machine.
More powerful 1100cc engine
When you’re loaded with passengers and luggage, you need an engine that responds strongly to every input, especially for passing. A new cylinder head, throttle body, and ECU deliver precise throttle control.
Showa Electronically equipped ride adjustment
Optimum suspension settings, all the time. It’s not just a theory. Optional SHOWA EERA™ manages damping force relative to mode selection, and a dedicated suspension ECU draws real-time information from front and rear stroke sensors, the IMU, and cornering ABS. While stationary, rear spring preload can also be electronically adjusted to suit load.
TFT Touch Screen Display
Engage with the journey. A 6.5-inch full-color TFT touch screen provides an immersive selection of riding modes, easy navigation control, and Bluetooth smartphone and audio connectivity. Apple CarPlay® enables the mirroring and management of iPhone apps and calls via the touch screen.
A pair of LED headlights
The new dual LED headlight has a penetrating beam and dual Daytime Running Lights (DRL) that automatically adjust to ambient light intensity and provide a bright, highly visible light, improving safety. When cornering in the dark, additional cornering lights automatically illuminate blind spots using speed and lean angle.
