YAMAHA WR 450 F
1. Yamaha WR 450 F – Review
BM Travel Adventure has been a home gathering of leading experts in motorbike tourism in Indochina
You should never judge a book by its cover. When you see a dirt bike with a headlight and taillight, it’s easy to assume it’s a full-fledged trail bike, with little in common with the manufacturer’s motocross or cross-country model of equal displacement. The Yamaha WR450F, on the other hand, was designed by the bLU cRU to be an enduro racing and aggressive trail-riding motorcycle.
Despite the fact that the WR450F has previously proven to be quite capable, Yamaha is not one to rest on its laurels. Only two years after the WR450F was released, the bLU cRU gave it nearly all of the updates that the YZ450F received in 2020. As a result, the 2020-2021 WR450F and 2020-2021 YZ450F share many major components. The enduro model, on the other hand, has features that are unique to it, such as the ECU tuning, muffler, suspension settings, and engine mount combination.
Enduro motorcycle YZ450F, many of the updates that the YZ450F received in 2020 are carried over to Yamaha’s flagship enduro model, including an all-new cylinder head, 1.5mm-longer connecting rod, refined frame, thinner top triple clamp, less rigid front axle, and new front brake.
2. Yamaha WR 450 F – Highlights
The new cylinder head, camshafts, piston, and connecting rod on the WR450F are identical to those found on the latest-generation YZ450F. The transmission is a five-speed, but the wide ratios are not the same as on a motocrosser. The WR450F also has a higher-output stator, which Yamaha increased from 120W to 140W to keep the headlights bright and the battery charged for quick restarts.
To meet EPA requirements, the ECU tuning and exhaust system are tailored to the WR450F, which includes a multichamber mechanical spark arrestor-equipped muffler and a locked ECU. For those who want to race the bike, an accessory ECU is available from the Genuine Yamaha Technology Racing (GYTR) line of performance parts. You can also add the Communication Control Unit (CCU) to use the Yamaha Power Tuner app, which allows you to modify and create your own specific maps via a smartphone to match with a performance exhaust, whether a slip-on muffler or a full system. The GYTR ECU also comes with two base maps, with the option of adding a handlebar map switch to switch between them on the fly.
The WR450F engine performs admirably when the ECU and exhaust are considered. It’s helped by the fact that it’s powered by a YZ450F race engine at its core. The engine starts faster than previous models, starting in neutral and even in gear. The engine power is reduced compared to the motocrosser, but it runs clean and smooth. With only a little more engine braking than usual, throttle response is good. In some situations, the lower power of the YZ450F can be advantageous. Riding in the low to mid-rev range allows you to use the throttle much more aggressively without losing traction. Naturally, when you rev it up, it’s still a 450 and spins the rear wheel effortlessly.
The second gear is useful for starting and stopping, while the third gear is best for most single-trunk applications. You’ll notice the bike stretching its legs when you get to the fourth and fifth gears. It has four legs. It is divided into four halves. The stock gearing is 13:50, which allows for plenty of maneuverability. The ring is 13:50 and the gearing is 13:50, so you have plenty of room. more open trails.
