7 Day 6 Night Northeastern Vietnam Motorbike tour

Highlights

A 7 day ride through one of North Vietnam most remote and undeveloped area with breathtaking nature and friendly, hospitable ethnic tribes such as Tay, Nung, Dao, H’Mong. We’ve hand pick only the road less traveled for you on this tour, to bring about the rawest, most authentic Vietnam experience.

Day 1: Hanoi - Bac Son (180 km; 5 hours)

We’ll start our tour with a hearty breakfast before making a break for the lowlands and plains of the Red River Delta.
We’ll ride through the countryside amid steep mountains and vast paddy fields till National Highway 1 which we’ll follow through Bac Giang province all the way to Bac Son - Lang Son. Bac Son is a small town in the mountainous Lang Son province, lying in a quietly tucked away valley embraced by green mountains and stretches of river woven golden rice fields.

Day 2: Bac Son - Quang Uyen (140 km; 5 hours)

Setting off from Bac Son, we’ll head North and join the legendary Highway 4 where Viet-Cong forces carried out numerous raids over mountain passes in this remote border region.
In the afternoon, our ride took a challenging turn into mountainous roads. The most impressive landscapes in Cao Bang province is during this ride from Dong Khe to Quang Uyen, where steep limestone mountains pair with endless green rows of sugarcane fields all the way to out destination.

Day 3: Quang Uyen - Bao Lac (170 km; 5 hours)

From here, our bike tour will move southwest from Cao Bang and scale several mountain passes overlooking magnificent mountain views. On the other side, descending downwards, we’ll apiary-carpeted hillsides, Vietnam’s most famous honey producing area.

Day 4: Bao Lac - Dong Van (110 km; 5 hours)

We’ll hit the road hard today, with the ride covering mostly small challenging mountain roads through colorful hill-tribe territory with inspiring scenery accompanying us all the way. Once we get to our destination in Dong Van, we will have some spare time to wander the H’Mong street with century old houses built with clay bricks and roof tiles.

We’ll also head up to the Heaven’s gate Ma Pi Leng for a bit sightseeing. At the peak of the pass, surrounded by cloud-hugged mountains overlooking the poetic Nho Que river swaying in the distance, it is hard to find sufficient words to describe the paramount feeling of humility against nature.

Day 5: Dong Van - Ha Giang (165 km; 6 hours)

Zig-zagging our way through the rock plateau, we head for the Vuong Family Mansion just 14 km out from Dong Van.
The Vuong family were royalty to the H’Mong people in Dong Van. Situated in the beautiful valley of Sa Phin, their residence was built with the finest finesse of Chinese architecture from the Qing Dynasty, interwoven with H’Mong cultural features. The entire residence was constructed from just wood and stones, with craft-men coming from Yunnan, China, and H’Mong workers.

We’ll also take our time to the other heaven gates: Quan Ba, Yen Minh, and Dong Van. Named after the feelings one gets upon those rocks: knocking on heaven’s door. Here, we’re surrounded by rocks on all side: perpendicular limestone walls and vast mountain range. You’ll barely remember the hustling and bustling of the concrete jungle getting lost in this world of green and gray.

Day 6: Ha Giang - Vu Linh (180 km; 5 hours)

After breakfast, we’ll join National Highway 2 and ride down to Vu Linh where we’ll stop for the night at a Dao village. But before that, we’ll make a small detour for Thac Ba lake, the largest man-made lake in Vietnam with more than 300 islands. If time permits, we’ll take a small boat ride around the lake, before ending the day with a Dao family.

Day 7: Vu Linh - Hanoi (180 km; 5 hours)

Last day of the tour, we can be a tourist and take the highways back, or we can bounce off to smaller, quiet roads, and take a brief off-road ride through a green tea plantation.
The last 15 km will be the most challenging part of today’s ride as we join in the maddening Hanoi traffic and its cacophony of honking and yelling. Hopefully, we’ll make it back to the hotel with our eardrums intact, safely ending a week’s worth of adventure!
