6 Day Amazing Ha Giang Tour
Day 1: Hanoi - Thac Ba Lake/Vu Linh (180 km; 8 hours)
We’ll sneak pass rush hour in the city via small winding roads along the Red River. No sooner had we have the city at our back, the scenery shifted immediately to long swerving brush stroke of river and tree-lined roads on green rice paddy canvas. We’ll then turn into smaller, quiet roads to Vu Linh village, a small Dao village by the side of Thac Ba Lake, where people are friendly and welcoming. If we have spare time, we can take a boat trip around the lake.
Homestay in Vu Linh.
Day 2: Thac Ba Lake - Ha Giang (180 km; 8 hours)
Bidding farewell to the Dao family, we’ll head for Ha Giang city.
Our route takes us along a palm-tree-lined road between the vast Thac Ba Lake and looming mountains right up to National Highway No.2 heading straight towards Ha Giang. Before riding for a Tay village where we’ll spend the night, we’ll stop at Ha Giang city to grab our permits for the Dong Van rock plateau and frontier area the following days.

At 1000 meter above sea-level, we are entitled to a bit of lazing around. Starting late with morning coffee and a side of fresh air, we’ll head off on winding rocky road along the plateau. We’ll pass several mountain passes until we reach Meo Vac for lunch. In the afternoon, we’ll bike downhill along a river and enjoy the view shifting to more green and less rock.
We can also offer you a hidden bonus route, but it’s strictly for the bike veterans.

To make the boat trip on Ba Be Lake, we’ll start our day earlier at around 8 a.m. Adventure awaits!
Just 20 km out from Bao Lac, we’ll turn into narrow and bumpy dirt-roads that tightly hugs giant rice terraces. We’ll also have to cross a few rivers and streams and one of a kind hand-made bamboo bridges. Our ride ends with lunch in a peaceful village nearby Ba Be Lake.
We’ll take the rest of the day off to relax and swim in one of the biggest and most beautiful natural lake in Vietnam.
Day 6: Ba Be Lake - Hanoi (240 km; 8 hours)
Last day of the trip, we’ll stay off the main road for as long as possible as we head back to the Red River Delta, passing through areas inhabited by the H’Mong, Dao, Tay, and Nung ethnics. A mixture of both challenging off-road tracks and closed off roads will take us all the way back to Hanoi just before the crazy rush hour set in, ending our times with tenacious Ha Giang.
