This will be one very exciting and memorable tour.

Day 1: Hanoi – Vu Linh (180 km; 5 hours)

Accomodation: Homestay at ‘Dao’ ethnic people’s home

We will depart from Hanoi at 8:30 a.m. We will skip the crowded, traffic-jammed main roads and make our way through small, musing little roads that leads through green tea fields or along the great Red River, as per your request. We will arrive at about 4:30 p.m. After sorting our luggages, we will take our time wandering around the Dao Village learning about their daily life. You can also bathe and swim the Thac Ba Lake.

Day 2: Vu Linh – Sa Pa: (220 km; 5 hours)

Accommodation: Hotel and restaurant in Sa Pa

We’ll bid the Dao people farewell at 8:30 a.m and leave for Sa Pa.

We’ll zig-zag our way on lake-side roads around Thac Ba Lake, and take national highway 70 and 4D to the Vietnam-China border in Lao Cai. We can take some time off here to enjoy some coffee at the Vietnam-China border gate and get to know the century-long conflict history between Vietnam and China from as early as 130 B.C to present days.

There’s only 40 km between us and Sa Pa at this point, but it’s 40 km rollercoaster ride of twists and turns and uphill climbs. It is also a 40 km joyride with vibrant rice field terraces and valleys on one side, and rocky sun-kissed mountains on the other. We’ll take our time on the road, enjoy the scenery, take photos, and visit Lao Chai Ta Van Valley – one of the most beautiful valleys in northern Vietnam.

We will arrive at Sa Pa at about 4:30 pm, and spend the night there.

Day 3: Sa Pa – Mu Cang Chai (160 km, 5 hours)

Heading out of Sa Pa at 8:30 a.m, we’ll set our course for Mu Cang Chai, recognized as one of Vietnam’s national landscape. This is the Miss Universe of rice field terraces.

On our way, we’ll ride by O Quy Ho pass – one of the four greatest passes in Vietnam. This pass is at a staggering height of 2000 meter and is covered in a blanket of cloud all year round. And every once in a while, when the clouds fall asleep and the sun comes out to play, you can see Fansipan peak – the highest peak in Indochina, as well as the paramount Hoang Lien Son range.

We’ll stay the night in Mu Cang Chai.

Day 4: Mu Cang Chai – Phu Yen (190 km; 5 hours)

Accommodation: Hotel in Phu Yen.

We’ll head for Phu Yen at 8:30 a.m, following small mountain passes and dirt roads through a parade of green and blue and mountains and valleys and villages inhabited by ethnic Mong, Dao, and Tay people. We’ll reach Phu Yen at 4:30 p.m.

Beer time at the hotel! It’s 5 p.m somewhere in the world right?

Day 5: Phu Yen – Mai Chau (150 km; 5 hours)

Accommodation: Homestay

After breakfast, we will ride along the Black River and stalk the locals as they go about their normal everyday life. Once we get to Moc Chau Plateau – one of the most beautiful plateaus in Vietnam – we’ll choose between taking smaller roads around the valley, or ride for Hua Ta Pass peak for the view. After lunch on the plateau, we’ll head for Mai Chau. We can take the new national highway 6 for a cheat day, or follow the narrow and winding Old highway 6, or we can just go off-road for a 30 km ride of thrill and chills!

Day 6: Mai Chau – Hanoi (170 km; 5 hours)

We’ll start our journey home at 8:30 a.m.

We’ll arrive back at Hanoi at 4:30 p.m, effectively ending our amazing 1 week off road the off the tourist-grid. You would’ve experienced rough, treacherous roads amid peaceful green valleys and stoic rock mountains. You would’ve seen the genuity and friendliness of Vietnam ethnic people going about their daily life.
