1 day tour to Huong pagoda (Perfume pagoda)

Highlights

This one day pilgrimage trip will take you through rustic villages, serene paddy fields, tranquil river, all the way to the spiritual and religious landmark of North Vietnam. Perfume Pagoda, or Chua Huong, is the most spiritually and religiously revered attraction in the Northern region on Vietnam. A complex of Buddhist temples and shrines built on top of a limestone mountain, the only way to get there is via a boat ride and trekking up the mountain. Huong Pagoda draws a great number of pilgrims on holidays and religious events

Itinerary:

We’ll start our ride a bit earlier in the morning to dodge the morning rush hour of the city. We’ll then hit National Highway 21B and follows it through Ha Dong city, Van Dinh, Te Tieu… all the way to Huong Pagoda.

Upon arrive at Duc wharf, we’ll leave our motorbikes and take an hour long boat trip on the Yen stream to the foot of Huong Tich limestone mountain, on which Huong Pagoda is built. We can relax and enjoy the view on the side of the river. If you are spiritual, there are stops at Den Trinh and the Registration Shrine where you can make offerings and pray for luck, wealth, or health..

After the scenic cruise, we’ll start trekking up the mountain to Thien Mu temple complex, built centuries ago. Then it’s as good a time as ever to enjoy some lunch at a local restaurant before continuing our trip to the Huong Tich cave. Huong Tich cave is the most beautiful cave in the region, as well as the most spiritually sacred site in Vietnam. Time to take in the surrounding stalagmites and stalactites, the atmosphere, the small shrines and temples, and the people praying. Afterwards, we’ll walk our way down to Thien Tru wharf, hops on the boats back to our bikes and return to Hanoi.

As of recently, you can opt to take a cable car ride up to Thien Mu complex instead of climbing, so there’s that. But where’s the fun in that?
